Each engagement is introduced within its political context and closed with its consequences. Overview maps describe the geographic boundaries of the participants and locate major military engagements. Chosen battles are named and arranged chronologically for easy access by historical period. Pertinent facts regarding the armies and leadership in each engagement are presented in an easy to follow informational box which also provides each battlefield's location from Paris or a nearby major city. A battlefield map indicates the military units engaged and provides icons which mark sites of potential interest. Clear and concise battlefield driving instructions bring the visitor to each site followed by a brief description of local events presenting the significance of each battlefield site. Museums, memorials, and significant cemeteries are located and their contents briefly described. Insert pages provide a variety of period and contemporary photographs of the battles.
