Chapter 11. Raids and Invasion -- 1942 to 1944

Sites regarding the disastrous Canadian amphibious assault against the French coastal town of Dieppe are toured. A tour near Sedan is presented of fortifications at Fermont and la Ferté parts of the famous French Maginot Line. Sites of the German ‘Atlantic Wall’ are toured including concreted artillery casemates near Calais. German V-1 and V-2 ‘Vengeance weapons’ launch sites near St-Omer are visited. Supreme Allied Commander, General Dwight Eisenhower’s Operation ‘Overlord’ (Normandy Invasion) is toured in detail visiting sites of British airbourne actions at Pegasus Bridge, British – Canadian landings at Sword Beach, Juno Beach, and Gold Beach, American landings at Omaha Beach and Utah Beach, and the American airborne landings on the Cotentin peninsula around Ste-Mère-Église. Sites relating to several actions in General Bernard Law Montgomery’s battle of Caen are visited.
