Chapter 6. Trench Warfare -- 1915

The second year of the First World War saw the start of trench warfare and the use of poison gas. To view remnants of these notorious grounds, tours of seven battlefields are described where the British Army under General John French and the French Army under General Joseph Joffre attempted to expel the German invader. They include Hill 60 near Ypres, the Flanders fields north of Ypres, the battlefields of Artois at Notre-Dame de Lorette near Arras, the Forêt d’Argonne east of Reims, Forêt d’Apremont near St-Mihiel, Butte des Éparges east of Verdun, and battle of Loos.
